NAME: Lisa Gisele Unfried
- What inspired you to become an author?
I enjoy telling stories that impact others. I feel that I can see and feel the pain, joy, and other deep emotions of others and enjoy sharing these feelings with others. I love stories with twists, mystery and surprise and I love believing I can affect others through my writing, prayerfully for the better.
- When did you first realize you had a passion for writing?
In high school creative writing class. I wrote a little poetry and a few short stories that received great praise from my teacher and had a poem published in the school literary booklet.
- What has been your biggest challenge as an author?
Believing in myself and my abilities. I still find it difficult to call it a talent. When you believe in yourself you find the time to do what you believe in. When you don’t have the passion to write, it can get lost in the ‘every day’.
- Who is your biggest writing inspiration?
The Holy Spirit. I feel him pushing me to express the stories in me in a way to improve the lives of others.
- What book are you reading right now?
Several, I tend to read bits of several books, though I don’t suggest this for others. The titles I am currently reading include: “The Triumphant Church” by Kenneth E. Hagin, “Third Heaven Authority” by Mike Thompson, and “Eat to Beat Disease” by William W. Li, MD.
- What sets your book apart from others in the same genre?
My book focuses on showing young adults the reality of the darkness and light of this world in a fun to read and captivating story. While other books address the battle between evil and good and our spiritual armor, this book is doesn’t try to sugar-coat what kids these days are dealing with. It introduces the King Jesus, the Armor, and the true enemy. Future books in the series address the influence of evil in this world and the authority of the believer, then how they can change their world for the better.
- How do you beat writer’s block?
First, I try to figure out what is causing the block. Is it because I have lost direction? Then I work on the book in a different way. I may outline, try describing the thought process, define the theme, something that has me thinking about the story but not writing it. If that doesn’t work, I take a break and immerse myself in something totally different with the pledge to return to the story at another set time and begin again. It usually helps.
- What do you hope readers take away from your writing?
God is good and has a plan. He has not left us without strength. We have the means to fight against the difficulties of life and not just survive, but to stand and thrive.
- If you could describe your writing journey in three words, what would they be?
Planned by God
- What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Be like a contestant on American Idol: believe you can do anything until someone says you can’t, then learn how to be better and keep trying.
- What made you choose Lucid Books as your publishing partner?
They are Christian based and seemed to offer a more complete package. They work to keep my work secure. They believed in me and my work.
- Where can we find you when you’re not busy writing?
Spending time with my family, watching God’s message on you-tube videos, finding new Keto recipes and trying them out, researching healthy eating.
- Where can we find you on social media/website?
